Winter Quarter 2019 - First Post

After you install Ubuntu there are some housekeeping items that you might want to do.  

Updating and upgrading software.  Installing new software.  

You will need to get familiar with the command prompt it is called a "terminal" in Ubuntu.  You can search for it under installed programs and pin it to the task bar.  When you launch terminal you can copy and paste commands into it.
You will be asked for your root password.  This is your normal users password, Linux doesn't run in "root mode" it runs in a protected user mode similar to Windows 10.  When it needs to install or change something it asks for permission to do it.  User Account Control is the Windows term. UAC.
