From what I'm gathering, these cars had some sort of "infotainment" system that had a data connection (probably to the user's smartphone), and this data connection was cracked into by a rights group that decided "well, why don't we try this?" Data collected included where you've gone and your smart phone identifier.
Even our cars are betraying us. What timeline are we living in now?
