The Linux Kernel 5.0 is out. Linus Torvald commented that they had a handful of fixes the week they released, but it's not so unstable that he is worried about it. The article points out the main features of the update, including things from NVIDIA Xavier display support to improved power management. The article also links a separate article including the rest of the updates. https://itsfoss.com/linux-kernel-5/

This article goes over some of the best open source tools for scheduling and organizing your time. This article is more for people who use Linux at home full time, but it's still cool to check out if you don't. The article includes 5 of these apps, each with a pretty good description of the app itself. https://www.linuxinsider.com/story/Top-Open-Source-Tools-for-Staying-on-Time-and-on-Task-85779.html

My article this week is about gaming with Linux and what you sacrifice when you do so. One of the main ones is graphic card support. With open source programs, the one mentioned is Nouveau, you don't get the performance you would with the Nvidia's proprietary drivers. After reading the article you'll see that Linux hasn't quite caught up with Windows in the gaming world but to really catch up, they need to make it simpler. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2019/02/12/6-months-with-linux-the-ugly-truth-about-gaming-without-windows/#2285d17b37c0

This is a list of the best file managers for Linux distros. The list includes things like Nautilus which we have used in the past and many more similar but different file managers. Another file manager that I've installed is Nemo. According to the article it "contains all the missing features of Nautilus." It also shows the progress of operation when moving or copying files. https://www.ubuntupit.com/linux-file-manager-top-10-reviewed-for-linux-users/

Last year Google released a feature allowing people to run desktop Linux apps on Chrome OS. Now they might be planning to let Chromebook owners to choose a Linux distro to run on instead of using Chrome OS. Right now it's unsure if the distro being downloaded for the Chromebook would have to be modified to work alongside Chrome OS. https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2019/01/chromebook-linux-apps-choose-distro

This article goes over a way to make your Ubuntu desktop more secure with a simple firewall. Even though Ubuntu is somewhat safe already, any computer connected to the internet is insecure. It doesn't take very long at all only being about 3 steps. Although it doesn't 100 percent make Ubuntu secure, it does make your computer that much more secure. https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-secure-your-ubuntu-18-04-desktop-installation-in-one-easy-step/
