Like Kali it can run off a device without installing. All the apps that come on the OS revolve around security and privacy. The default browser is TOR (which has a function that works like a builtin vpn). Its can't block all of the surveillance methods, but it does put a thorn in the side of the NSA.
All this comes from my experience trying out the distro. -
The Tails distro is based of of Debian and its interface is easy to use. It has an option to pay whatever you like when you download it. (including $0) The distribution revolves on security and anonymity. (Tails stands for the amnesic incognito live system) The window to connect to the internet is cleaner and not as cluttered as Ubuntu when manually entering addresses. The Distro has bugs though.
