Update resolution in Hyper-V install of Mint

You will need to open the text editor as root.
Open Terminal

type   sudo xed

Now with the text editor open browse to the /etc/default   folder and open the grub file.  You will have to click on filesystem to see the folders outside your users home directory

You will need to add onto one of the lines to make it look like this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash video=hyperv_fb:1920x1080"

Take note of the " " quotes.  There is originally one after the word splash.   It needs to move to the end of the line.  Also don't switch to a resolution that your monitor doesn't support. 1440x900 is the resolution for the smaller Dell monitors.

after you save the file over the top of the old one run (file - save as )
run from terminal:
sudo update-grub

then reboot your virtual machine
