Installing SSH Server

SSH is an important tool.  We are going to install the SSH server component and you will work with a partner to connect to their Linux "server".  There are lots of tutorials.   There are two components, the SSH server and the client.  SSH server is not installed by default on Ubuntu or Mint unless they are the server version of Linux.  The client can be command line through terminal or a program like PuTTY.

The root or sudo account always has access.  To allow access to other users you will have to edit the SSH config file.  This isn't that big a deal.  Note the instructions are using the evil vi editor, you can use gedit or xed.  You can also right click and choose "open as root" in Mint.

Re: Installing SSH Server

Linux Mint 19 and Ubuntu have an option for desktop sharing (remote desktop) using VNC.  This is built into the OS.

There are also many other tools/packages that can be installed to do the same thing.
