Re: Article #7 Post a new article - Maybe on encryption? Due Monday 18th

Disney's streaming service Disney+ launched this week which after a few days hackers have already hijacked thousands of accounts and have placed them on the dark web for sale which are going for about 3 to 5 dollars. the reason why they got access to those accounts is by password reuse. they can lock you out of getting your account back by changing the email associated with the account, which stops users from using automated password reset to regain access.

2 hackers were arrested for stealing $550,000 in crypto currency using SIM card swap. SIM Swapping, or SIM hijacking, is a technique that typically involves the social engineering of a target's mobile phone provider. The attacker makes a phony call posing as their targets and convinces the mobile phone provider to port the target's phone number to a SIM card belonging to the attacker.

Las Cruces Public School District had to wipe over 30,000 computers due to an attack with ransomware. The district's email system, being cloud-based with the provider's own cyber security systems, was unaffected. =18.2px The medical records and administrative staff to print student transcripts or access parent contact information were all wiped out.

There's app on the app store your iPhone is hacked/exploited who is created by Dan Guildo, the founder of Trail of Bits. There is a case that china has been using hacked website to get information from people's iPhone. iVerify will tell you what went wrong on your iPhone and can help you fix it.

The Dark Side of Quantum Computing
In 1994 when the internet was going public a  mathematician invented a algorithm that would be able to factor large number of prime factors given aquantum computer with a sufficiently large number of qubits and sufficiently low noise level (a problem for quantum computers). This ability to factor large primes more quickly would allow those in possession of a quantum computer to break the asymmetric encryption the encryption scheme at the heart of most internet communication schemes including SSL which you use every time you buy something from Amazon or view your bank account online. the blazing speed of quantum computers also allows them to brute force symmetric encryption, which is used to encrypt data when it is stored. This leads most experts to believe that when quantum computers of sufficient size exist both encryption of data in motion and at rest no longer will be safe.

There is a fundamental flaw that leaves Bluetooth devices vulnerable – first when they are initially paired to a mobile app, and then again when they're operational. The vulnerability centers around UUID, and leaves the device vulnerable to a fingerprinting attack. In cases with no encryption involved the attacker could listen to a conversation taking place. The vulnerability can be easily fixed. Lin found with an amplifier attached to a sniffer he could extend "sniffing" range up to 1000m.

An official cryptocurrency site was hacked. Monero, the website, had its linux and windows binary codes changed somehow. So customers whom thought they were protecting their bitcoin wallets, simply had all their bitcoin HIJACKED!!!  The good news is that only users who downloaded the CLI wallet between Monday the 18th 2:30 am - 4:30 om UTC before the threat was noticed and taken care of.

To be very honest this is the first time that I hear that the new Tesla that Elon Musk's electric vehicle will make so much of a head news of the special features and how durable the vehicle is.
