Tom Cruise's Minority Report coming true?

http://time.com/4966125/police-departments-algorithms-Chicago/

According to the Time Magazine article listed above, the Chicago Police Department is now using a computer algorithm in conjunction with big data collected to assign individuals with a "Threat Assessment" score ranging from 1 to 500+.  The author points out this experimental program is secret, publicly unaccountable and is already shaping the future of modern policing in Chicago.

Basically the program collects various pieces of information about you, arrest records, violent crimes committed, weapons offenses, other citations, age when offenses committed and even if you had been a victim of such crimes and then determines your particular threat risk according to the algorithm.

With this number police are then able to generate a "Heat List" from those individuals with higher scores.  Police are then able to contact those on the list in the event of situations that might possibly set these "Heat List" members off regardless as to whether or not they would have done anything.

This opens up a whole can of worms regarding profiling, police protection, invasion of privacy and the whole "Big Brother" government situation.
