Well, maybe ban is a harsh word, but the new powers that are being put through is that the UK government wants to have the ability to decrypt any communication they feel like. End-to-End cannot be decrypted by the encryption provider, so it would technically be illegal if this was put through.
I don't care how many terrorists are using it, though, card readers in just about every shop in the world use End-to-End to authorize debit/credit card transactions, it's a massive part of Point-of-Sale machines, so I'm not giving up my debit card just because you can't be arsed to find criminals the old fashioned way.
