Being that we've been working with the Raspberry Pi recently I thought this would be an appropriate article.  The new Raspberry Pi 3A+ is a cheaper version of the Raspberry Pi for smaller projects that are less resource-intensive.  A new update is giving the 3A+ more versatility by adding Linux 5.1 Kernel support.  This is good news for anyone looking to purchase this model of the Pi because they'll have a wider variety of options when working with it.

A new cyber-criminal group that is believed to operate out of China has been hacking into Linux servers since last fall and installing a new strain of malware that mines cryptocurrency.  Experts say Pacha Group hackers use brute-force attacks to compromise services like WordPress or PhpMyAdmin.  This is a complex piece of code that is designed to work with multiple command and control servers.

Intel has a line of dedicated GPUs coming out in 2020, and they're sending the message that driver support for Linux will be a high priority.  Intel seems to want to build trust within the Linux community early on which cold give them an edge in the ever-increasing GPU wars that will be coming soon.  With Intel in the GPU market, it will be interesting to see how Nvidia and AMD respond.  Perhaps due to the increasing competition, solid Linux support will become the new standard.

A project lead at Dell named Barton George talks with Forbes about Project Sputnik, which is Dell's push to get different Linux distributions on a variety of Dell machines.  What makes this project unique is the fact that Dell is working with component manufacturers to develop Linux drivers so that these machines ship ready to go "out of the box".  George is committed to improving the entire ecosystem, even if that means helping competing companies.

Linux servers are the target of a new crypto-mining campaign in which a malware implants a backdoor Trojan by exploiting known vulnerabilities in six different Linux distributions.  The malware has been seen targeting servers mainly in Latin America and Asia, including machines hosted by Amazon Web Services and Mac devices. There is currently no way for anti-malware software to detect and stop these attacks.
